Crit Reflection

I decided to only display the final piece and one large experimental piece for the Crit because I had a lot of experimental work that led to the final piece and it was a piece that had elements of experimentation in it. As well as this, artists tend to present their more finished and final works when it comes to exhibiting in a gallery and our tutors told us to try to make our presentation like a display in a gallery.

We were asked to do a Crit evaluation sheet (above) which we read from during our presentation to help us to explain our project and final pieces, I used this as well as my own notes I had made previously to help present my work and my peers/ tutor also also asked questions about my work.

I got lots of positive feedback during the crit from peers/tutor; they told me they liked the loose way that I painted the first painting and the fact that it was just an outline of a figure with no identification of facial features which made it seem ambiguous and helped convey my themes of detachment and disconnection. They also said they could really see my artist inspiration (Tracey Emin) coming through in my work. A few people said they found the sheer grey fabric interesting and that it added depth to my painting as well as it being ‘clever’ because I had used it in my photography for this project which I had based my paintings off. There were a few comments about the ripped background, about how it had relevance to poetry and the themes of detachment which could be seen as being portrayed through fragmentation of words in my work. Overall, I thought it was a very positive and helpful Crit and I enjoyed explaining my work to the class.
